Thanksgiving Menu - A Families Favorite Meal

Thanksgiving is on my mind and I couldn't be more excited!  Every year I cook for my family of five plus my in-laws.  I can't explain why I enjoy it so much...but I just do!  The sound of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in the background, the smell of turkey in the oven and the buzz of the family waiting for their dinner on the fancy china.

I have done the same thing for about 20 years and I have tweaked some things here and there...but, I've tried to do things consistantly as much as I can so that my children will have a fond memory.

First thing that I do, is make cinnamon roles.  Simple, fast, and yummy.  Now, I've always made them from the old tube you buy in the store.  I never imagined that I could possibly make them from scratch, however....I have just discovered my fondness for bread baking and so I think I'm going to venture and try the cinnamon roles from scratch...OH SO YUMMMMMMY!  But the simple rolls keep the family happy till dinner time since we tend to eat early to please the Grandparents.

Next thing is my menu.  My menu may vary depending on who is coming to dinner.  I like to make favorites for the ones I love.  It's a holiday - so spoil away!  But for my turkey, I have always followed the Martha Stewart recipe from years ago.  I think the key is the amount of butter and the CHEESE CLOTH!  Now, after it has been cooking and you have basted it a few times (I baste about every 30 minutes), the cheese cloth will turn dark brown, almost black.  DO NOT be alarmed.  When you remove the cheesecloth, the skin of the turkey is the most beautiful, buttery, golden brown you have ever seen.  You will want to take pictures and send it to everyone you know!  And, it's very moist too.  I have to say, I'm always very proud of my turkey.

Another family favorite is the Green Bean Casserole. I only make this once a year.  It's just one of those things I guess, but it's enjoyed by everyone except for my husband.  He hates onions.  So, he misses out.

Who can have Thanksgiving without some corn pudding?!  This is so simple and so yummy!  Again, this is another dish I only make on this special day - but it's something that must be made, just like stuffing!

Here is the recipe I  use:

1 egg,  beaten
1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine, melted  (I used butter)
1 (8oz) carton sour cream
1 can whole kernel corn (I use the white corn, it's my husband favorite)
1 can cream style corn
1 box Jiffy cornbread mix

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Mix together all ingredients and pour into a buttered baking dish.  Bake for 35-40 minutes and ENJOY!

Whatever your family favorite sides are, I hope that they enjoy all the love and effort you put into it and that your day is as special as you are!
