I have a few blogs that I love to follow. One of them is At Home With Nikki. She has some wonderful ideas and I like that they are affordable ideas! It's important for our family to stick to a budget so that I can have the opportunity to continue to work from home part time and be available for my children when they need it.
Nikki shared an idea of a Family Meal Plan - On a BUDGET from one of her followers, Claire. Well, that caught my eye right away! There are five of us in our home. My oldest is an 18 year old boy, who loves to eat!
So I glanced over the printout she created, and instantly fell in love! I usually make a grocery list before I go shopping, but this list was much more organized than anything I had ever done on my own. Also, I tend to go shopping a few times a week. The list was set up in such a way, that I would only need to go to the store once a week - what a time saver!
Here is my review of this wonderful idea. I hope it works out well!
I went to At Home With Nikki's website and printed up her Meal Plan list. My first impression was, how beautifully simple! Short, sweet and to the point. So, I made up my menu for the week and as I selected my meals, I would include what I needed from the grocery store on the right side of her template. She has each section divided into different areas of the store. THAT, was a HUGE time saver for me. Although, I normally make a list before I shop, I have to admit.....it's not this organized.
Once my list was done, I went to a favorite website for my couponing, www.couponmom.com. You can pull up your favorite store in the area and it will tell you what is on sale and where you can find coupons as well! I did my research and pulled my coupons for the week and off to the store I went.
I was able to have my cart full in just 30 minutes!!! Now, I do have to mention I had none of my children with me - so it could have taken longer.
I usually shop every other day. This takes a lot of time away from my home business. So, by shopping on one day, I'm able to put more hours in for work. Also, I spend about $60-$80 per trip when I go. That adds up! So I figure, the less I'm actually in the store, the less I'll spend - right?!
I'm a big fan of this idea and highly recommend it! Thanks Nikki and Claire!
