Work At Home Mom and Time Management

I am like so many others.  I truly have a difficult time with time management.  Since I am a WAHM, I feel a lot of pressure to be able to keep a pristine home (which never happens), laundry done, dishes done, groceries purchased, a hot meal ready for when the family gets home AND get in a full day of work.

Who am I kidding?!  There is no way.  I'm only human - although, I would love to be Wonder Woman!
And this would be the version I would prefer!

For years, I have been more of a Stay At Home Mom.  I worked from home part time, I made enough to help with some groceries and a few small purchases.  But, my focus was mostly on the children and home.  Now, all of the kids are in school full time and I need to put more hours in at work and help more with our monthly bills.  But, I am finding it very hard to transition.

I began looking around for some advice on how to get more organized.  First thing I found was to set standard work hours.  I like this idea.  Actually, I LOVE this idea.  Structure is always good for me as well as the family.  Everyone knows exactly what to expect.

Next thing, is family support.  At this point, I am the only one in the home who does ANY chore.  When I was staying home with the kids and my husband worked...it made sense that I would be in charge of the house hold chores.  I actually take great pride in that.  However, things have changed.  I don't have the entire day to focus on cleaning and cooking.  Actually, I have very little time if I'm working like I need to be.  So, now there will have to be chores for the entire family.  The girls actually need some accountability.  With summer coming, there will be added chores such as the lawn (we have a yard that takes HOURS to cut- plus the garden and pool maintenance).

Cleaning schedule.  Schedules really, truly help me.  I like to see exactly what needs to be done.  I'm a very visual person.  So, a checklist of daily light housekeeping helps keep me on task.  For me, before work, I get my shower and start a load of laundry and wipe down the bathrooms.  When my daughter gets home from school, she runs the sweeper and puts away the clean dishes.  Just keeping a small hand on the house work helps keep the large messes down.  And the large messes are what truly affect my work progress.  I find it very hard to focus on my WAH business when I see dirt and clutter everywhere.

I hope that some of my ideas help you to be successful in your WAH business.  Please, share your thoughts and ideas with us!  I can always use a few helpful tips!
